Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Who like pancakes?????? Almost everyone, that's who! Pancakes are a great way to start a morning, or an awesome way to end a night! When you think of pancakes, you think hot, fluffy, buttery stacks of sweet breadsmothered with delicious sugary syrup. Sounds good, doesn't it? But that's not the point. The point is to be healthy, while still having that great taste.

This week it's all about the fluff and health combined.Healthy pancakes that look like regular pancakes and taste even better.Adding different fruits to pancakes give them a natural flavor and sugar that can make a mouth water. With these pancakes, there is no regret later. Your stomach, and your heart, will praise you for the delightful treat.

Milkshake or SMOOTHIE?!?!?

What is the difference between a milkshake and a smoothie? A milkshake is made with ice cream and extra milk. A smoothie is made with ice and fruit. A smoothie is shown to be much healthier than a milkshake because it has natrual sugars from fruits; whereas a milkshake has added sugar.

A milkshake may be a quick sugary drink, but a fruit smoothie is just as sweet and delicious, not to mention healthier. When faced with the choice of health now or health later on in life, many perople choose health now. We don't look at how the choices we make now will affect us in the long run. Just because you can drink a milkshake now, does not mean you will always have that choice. Wouldn't you rather have the option to choose whether or not you want a milkshake later on? Here is a recipe for a fruit smoothie that tastes just a good as a milkshake, but has less sugar and a healthy "kick" to it.

What is comfort food? Comfort food is food that is eaten when there is an emotional shift in someone's life. Often, the foods that are considered "comfort food" are extremely unhealthy. These foods are high in the amount of sugar and salt, which can lead to many diseases such as diabetes, heart attack, and others.

Because of the health risks involved with comfort food, you would think that people would refrain from eating when they go through a stressful experience. That is not the case. We, as a whole, look for something that can give us joy, whether that joy is only temporary or lasts a long time. Food is a delicious way "get rid of the pain." Eating comfort food is not a bad habit, but there is a healthier way to comfort yourself. Just because you are "eating the pain away," doesn't mean that you have to eat something unhealthy.

In this blog, I hope to show you a whole new way to look at food. Being healthy is not a curse. It is ia way to live a longer life. I come from a long line of people who have had to find a better way to cook their food. Diabetes runs in my family. As a young lady who is at high risk, I have to eat healthier.
